TL; DR

  • Google appears to be quietly rolling out a new functionality for the Google Play Store.
  • This feature allows users to remotely delete apps from other devices.

While Google Play Store users have always been able to remotely install apps on their devices, they have never been able to delete them remotely. However, it appears that the Play Store has now been updated with this functionality.

Tipster AssembleDebug has warned Android Authority to a newly available feature in the Google Play Store. This feature allows a user to remotely delete apps from other devices. Although this feature was first noticed last year, hidden behind some flags, it appears that Google has quietly rolled the feature out widely.

You can find the remote app uninstall feature by opening the Google Play Store, tapping Manage apps & device and going to the Manage tab. You should see a page similar to the image below.

If you have multiple connected devices, you'll see a box in the top left that says “✓ This device.” Tapping that box will bring up a sheet showing your connected devices. Selecting one of the options will display a list of the apps on that device.

You can select one or more apps to remove by tapping the checkbox to the right of the app. A trash can icon will appear in the top right corner after you tap one of the checkboxes. When you tap the trash icon, a popup will appear giving you the option to delete or cancel the app(s).

While this feature was first discovered months ago, it's nice to see it finally being rolled out publicly.
