Vodafone Idea's smart answer to Jio and Airtel's unlimited 5G

vodafone ideas smart answer to jio airtels

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has cleverly capitalized on the unlimited 5G data offering from Jio and Airtel. The telecom provider not only offers more data to consumers, but also indirectly locks them into their network. On Monday, Vi announced the Vi warranty offer. I will briefly summarize the offer for you here (if you want to read about it in detail, go to the link below). The telco said its prepaid customers with new 5G/4G phones will be eligible for 130GB of data when they dial 121199 or *199*199#. Users get 10 GB of free data for 13 cycles of 28 days.

How does this offer respond to Jio and Airtel's unlimited 5G offering? Let me explain.

Vodafone Idea is responding to Jio and Airtel's unlimited 5G data offering in a unique way

The telco is losing customers to Jio and Airtel as they offer unlimited 5G and a superior coverage experience to consumers. To counter this, Vi said it will provide customers with 130GB of data to its users. But it won't be offered at all. When the customer reaches the existing data limit, he/she will instead receive 10 GB of free data for the next 28 days.

The condition is that the customer has to recharge with a minimum of the Rs 239 plan. Customers who recharge with Vi's Rs 299 or more plan will now also get Vi Hero Unlimited benefits including Weekend Data Rollover, Data Delights and Binge All Night. All this essentially means that users get more data from the telecom provider.

While this is all 4G data, much slower than the 5G data offered by the other two private telcos, it doesn't hurt as long as it meets the consumer's use cases or needs. Furthermore, it also makes the customer look forward to more data from the telecom provider after the current 28-day period ends. This can help reduce subscriber churn.
