A five-year-old boy is in hospital after being hit in the head by an XL Bully.

The young boy was attacked at a house in Hull at 11.45am on Monday.

Police seized the dog from the Brazil Street home and Detective Chief Inspector Allison Sweeting said: “We are working closely with the boy's family and the dog's owner to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

'At this stage the dog breed is believed to be an XL bully type and has been seized as part of our investigation.'

This isn't the first time someone has been attacked by an XL bully dog.

a woman was beaten to death by someone in her London home just four days ago.

And in March, a toddler in Doncaster was mauled by his family's pet XL Bully and was rushed to hospital.

And just before the ban came an XL bully was tied up in London in February and set on fire in January.

From February 1 this year, it will be illegal in England and Wales to own, breed, sell, donate or rehome an XL Bully without a certificate or exemption.

The breed was considered illegal because eleven people have been killed by the dog in recent years.

Many others have also been seriously injured.

The dogs must now be registered and must wear a muzzle when in public.

There are strict penalties for those who do not follow the new rules.
