Sofia Vergara has revealed that she has married her former Modern family co-star Ed O'Neill 'not to die' so they can reboot.

The American sitcom first aired in 2009 and aired for 11 seasons. In 2020, the series was canceled.

The series followed the lives of three different families living in a suburb of Los Angeles and connected through their patriarch, Jay Pritchett, played by Ed.

During the show's run, the show won a total of 22 Emmy Awards, while its success also made Sofia, 52, one of the best the highest paid actor on American television.

Although the series ended only four years ago, Sofia is already eager to reprise her role, but she jokes that there is something standing in her way.

“I always joke with him,” she said of her former co-star Ed, 78.

“Ed, don't die. Because if we make the sequel, it's going to be a while, and you're the oldest of us. You can't be dead!” she said Variety.

The actress also recalls that after seeing Ed in the miniseries Clipped, in which he played LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling, she told him, “You look f***ing old.”

She also said she would “do anything to be back on that set.”

“That would be so much fun. A TV movie maybe?” she considered.

Earlier this year, their co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Mitchell Pritchett, brought fans of the sitcom into ecstasy with a cryptic Instagram post.

He shared a photo of the Dunphy home on his Instagram Stories, writing, “Haven't seen this view in a while.”

Naturally, this reminder of the past caused an internet meltdown, with many Modern Family viewers suspecting a reboot was coming.

While there were initially plans for a spinoff that would have focused on Mitchell, his husband Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and their adopted daughter Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) as they settled into their new home in Missouri, it never came to fruition.

Jesse opened up about the potential 2022 show, explaining that it had been postponed during an appearance on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live.

“There have been discussions. I think the network decided against it. That's the first time I've said that!” he said.

Modern Family is available to stream on Disney Plus.
