As one Summer Olympics draws to a close, planning for the next is already underway. What’s more, the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles could also play host to an ambitious goal: “Games Without Cars.”

LA Mayor Karen Bass says one solution to Los Angeles' “infamous” traffic jams is for the city to expand its public transportation system to allow for “no-car games.” She told the AP that “public transportation will be the only way to reach the Los Angeles locations,” and that in addition to temporarily increasing the number of buses in the city, they will also “ask companies to allow their employees to work from home for the 17-day period.”

“Tom Bradley, mayor of Los Angeles in 1984, had local businesses stagger their hours to reduce the number of cars on the road. Bass likes that approach, but wants to go further and allow non-essential workers to work remotely during the Games.

“Part of the car-free Olympics is getting people to stop driving,” Bass said.

Sounds like a great opportunity for anyone working in clean transportation and public transport, and while there is currently no vacancy for someone with those skills on LA28maybe that will change in the near future.
