A proposed class action lawsuit alleges that Apple is hiding behind privacy claims to prevent the storage of child abuse material on its computers. iCloudand alleged grooming via iMessage.
A new submission with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, was filed on behalf of an unnamed 9-year-old plaintiff. Listed only as Jane Doe in the complaint, the filing says she was coerced into creating and uploading CSAM to her iPad.
“When 9-year-old Jane Doe received an iPad for Christmas,” the complaint states, “she never expected that perpetrators would use it to coerce her into producing and uploading Child Abuse Material (“CSAM”) to iCloud.”
“This lawsuit alleges that Apple exploits 'privacy' as it sees fit,” the complaint reads. “Sometimes 'privacy' is mentioned on billboards and in slick commercials, and sometimes privacy is used as a justification to look the other way, while Doe and other children's privacy is completely trampled upon by the distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on Apple's iCloud.”
