There is a reason Why Pizza Is the Menu of Choice for Picky Toddlers, Hungry Teens, and Demanding Gourmets Homemade pizza is a complete meal. It’s irresistible, easy to make, and adaptable to a wide range of dietary preferences. Until recently, the aspiring pizzaiolo had no choice but to heat up his kitchen oven to the standard 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, there are a wide variety of home pizza ovens that can heat up to 900 degrees Fahrenheit, the perfect temperature to make crispy Neapolitan pizza in minutes.
I've been testing pizza ovens for a few weeks, using homemade dough (I like it Ooni's Classic Pizza Crust Recipe), pre-made fresh dough, and frozen pizzas. I also use an infrared thermometer to check that the temperature of the cooking surface is consistent (and is what the built-in thermometer says it is). Pizza ovens are also a lot more versatile than you might think: I also use them to sear steaks, quick-cook salmon, and saute broccoli. Here are my favorites. For those with limited access to outdoor spaces, I've included indoor options and an oven that fits on a small deck, balcony, or patio.
