New signings can be a bit of a risk to include in your very first starting XI. However, many teams have already sorted out much of their business early this year and there is always a thrill in the unknown of discovering a potential new fantasy football star. Here are our top five to watch out for this season:

Daichi Kamada (£3.0m) – Crystal Palace

The 28-year-old arrived on a free transfer this summer, re-joining manager Oliver Glasner. The Japanese midfielder made 127 appearances and scored 20 goals under the same manager in Germany. He has been brought in to replace the attacking returnees who will be missed following the departure of Michael Olise.

Yankuba Minteh (£2.9m) – Brighton

The forward is not technically a newcomer to the competition, having been signed from Newcastle, but has not featured for the Magpies, instead coming off an impressive season on loan at Dutch champions Feyenoord. The Gambian international has already scored three goals in pre-season for his new club, setting him up for a solid debut campaign in the Premier League.

Crysencio Summerville (£3.9m) – West Ham

West Ham have been busy bringing quality to the London Stadium this summer. The 22-year-old is £900k cheaper than fellow signing Fullkrug and has Premier League experience, having scored four goals in his previous top-flight campaign.

Chadi Riad (£2.6m) – Crystal Palace

The left-sided centre-back has arrived from La Liga, which could pave the way for Palace to switch to a three-man defence. The 1.88m Moroccan impressed on loan at Betis last season for a modest fee, so he could be the perfect budget facilitator.

Emile Smith-Rowe (£3.0m) – Fulham

Another player who is not new to the Premiership, nor to Telegraph Fantasy Football in this case, it would be remiss of us not to highlight the value of the exciting attacking midfielder. The Cottagers’ new record signing will be pegged to play when fit, boasts an impressive ratio of attacking returns per game, and when combined with Fulham’s favourable opening run of fixtures, provides the recipe for points returns.
