Prison sentence for rioter who looted Greggs and Lush in England T-shirt | UK | News

A shameless idiot who was pictured looting a Greggs and Lush store in Hull has been jailed for four and a half years.

John Honey, from Park Grove, Hull, pleaded guilty to three charges of burglary and violent disorder before being sentenced to a lengthy prison term.

The 25-year-old was also jailed for five years for his role in the UK riots that gripped the country in the days following the horrific stabbings in which three young girls were stabbed in Southport.

Honey, who wore a flashy England T-shirt featuring a giant St George's flag, was also photographed stealing a stack of treats from Greggs bakeries as chaos broke out across the city on August 3.

He also pleaded guilty to racially motivated criminal damage after joining a 'shouting mob' that destroyed a BMW and nine other cars as criminals terrorised the streets of Hull.

Fellow rioter David Wilkinson, 48, has been sentenced to six years in prison as police across the country continue to charge people with a growing number of crimes.

The sentence for the “overconfident” Honey was due to be announced earlier this week but was delayed until Friday after a prison officer claimed the suspect had asked him if he wanted his autograph because “he's famous and all over social media”.

This brazen display apparently did nothing to mitigate his sentence, as he was today sentenced to 54 months in prison for his actions and the lack of remorse he has shown since.

The manager of the raided Lush store told the court in a victim impact statement that the horrific incident has had a “huge impact” on staff, with some fearing they will return to work at the upmarket bath bomb retailer for fear of something similar happening again.
