This is the Pixel9 – the most affordable ticket to Google's latest AI goodies. It's also a very competent but fairly compact Android phone, which isn't all that common these days.

This year's Pixels come in a recycled paper box with a sleeve. There's a USB-C cable in the box and that's it.

We also have the official €40 Pixel 9 case , which comes in six colours. It fits the phone perfectly, especially around the camera bar. It’s not too obtrusive from the front. It’s a soft silicone, but it doesn’t twist out of your pocket when you take the phone off, like some cheap ones do.

The Pixel 9 has a new design, with a camera bar that doesn’t extend from each end of the phone like it did on the Pixel 8 series. The frame is now flat, and so is the display.

It's a modern look that's very much in fashion at the moment and we can say that most of us here at GSMArena agree that it's the right choice.

The Pixel 9 doesn’t quite have the same compact feel as its predecessor, though. It’s 11 grams heavier, almost 3mm taller, and 1.2mm wider. Where the Pixel 8 felt small in the hand, the Pixel 9 pushes past that boundary and feels more like a large phone.

The device now has a slightly larger screen (0.1 inches) and a 3% larger battery.

Pixel 8 owners probably won't be rushing to the new version right away, but those who really need an upgrade may want to wait for our full review!
