Juventus According to reports in Italy, they are close to an agreement to sign Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino, which will end their hunt for fellow Premier League forwards Anthony Martial and Timo Werner.
Firmino’s first-team chances have dwindled at Anfield, thanks in part to the arrival of Diogo Jota and then Luis Diaz in January.
Sadio Mane has left this summer, but the arrival of Darwin Nunez means the Brazilian will struggle to make it to the base in the upcoming campaign.
With the World Cup Coming to Qatar this winter, Firmino is keen to make regular playing time to make the Brazil roster and is interested in leaving Liverpool for the first time since 2015, when he came over from Hoffenheim.
Italian publication Corriere dello Sport report that Juventus are on the brink of taking advantage of the situation and are close to a £19m deal for the 30-year-old.
Firmino has only one year left on his contract, so the fee is relatively low for a man of his quality and experience and Liverpool are keen to cash in, just like Mane.
If the deal comes through, it will have an impact on Chelsea and Manchester United’s transfer activities this summer, as Juve also kept their eye on the Blues’ Werner and the Red Devils’ Martial.
Werner is not happy at Stamford Bridge as he has struggled to get close to his best form in two years at the club and he is also linked with a return to former club RB Leipzig.
Martial’s future at Manchester United looked quite bleak when he was loaned to Sevilla last season, but he has returned to Old Trafford and is enjoying a great preparation.
The Frenchman is only 26 and has scored regularly in friendlies under new manager Erik ten Hag, and with uncertainty over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future, Martial could play a big part for the Red Devils this season.
