THOUSANDS of Barclaycard customers can’t pay after the company was hit by a “technical failure”.

Customers have complained about problems on social mediawith many saying they have not been able to contactless pay for weeks.

an angry one Twitter user said “Contactless not working on my card for weeks. Please inquire when this will be fixed.

“Can’t reach the contact number anymore, waiting 30+ minutes.”

Another added: “I’ve only been a customer for a few months – contactless never works.

“Had 2 brand new cards – it works for a few days then stops. Absolute joke. All my other cards are fine and never have a problem!!”

Barclay card responded to users on Twitter to say it is aware of the issue and that it is “urgently investigating”.

It added: “There are currently some issues with using contactless and the team is working on a fix.

“You can get notified when it’s up and running again by going to the status link.”

An update shared on Barclaycard’s service update page says the issue is still ongoing and customers will have to change their PIN or mobile phone to make payments.

A company spokesperson told MoneySavingExpert that it first started seeing the glitch in March.

He added: “We are currently experiencing a technology issue that affects contactless functionality for some Barclaycard cardholders.

“We are working hard to resolve the issue and a fix is ​​on track to be implemented in the coming days.

“All affected customers have been contacted to notify them and we will contact them again once the issue has been resolved.

“We would like to apologize to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused.”

What to do if you cannot pay contactless?

If you have any problems with Barclaycard, you should first contact the company directly.

Barclaycard advises customers to use their chip and PIN when paying for goods in person.

It says you can also try to pay via mobile – with Apple Pay or Google Pay for android.

You can also use another bank card to pay until the problem is resolved, or withdraw cash from an ATM to pay.
