Veteran actor Bernard Cribbins, who played The Wombles and . told starred in the film adaptation of The Railway Childrendied at the age of 93, his agent said.
Mr Cribbins’ agent, Gavin Barker Associates, said in a statement: “Beloved actor Bernard Cribbins OBE passed away at the age of 93. His career spanned seven decades with such diverse work ranging from films like ‘The Railway Children’ and the ‘Carry On’ series, ’60s hit ‘Right Said Fred’, an infamous guest on ‘Fawlty Towers’ and telling ‘The Wombles’.
He worked well into his 90s and most recently appeared in ‘Doctor Who’ and the CBeebies series ‘Old Jack’s Boat’. Last year he lost his 66-year-old wife, Gill.
“Bernard’s contribution to British entertainment is indisputable. He was unique, typical of the best of his generation, and will be greatly missed by all who have had the pleasure of knowing and working with him.”
