The 10 best electric cars to buy for the new 22 registration and their benefits

Are you thinking of buying an electric car? You are not the only one. Many UK buyers are wondering when to switch from petrol or diesel to an electric model.

There is good news if you have decided to make the leap: the market is chock full of brilliant options. Indeed, it feels like every week a new electric motor (EV) is coming out that brings more range, more equipment, a lower price or even a combination of all three.

To keep up, we have revised our list of the 10 best electric cars for sale for 2022. Of course, this list is not exhaustive; there are many more excellent EVs for sale, and it did not cost us a small amount of teeth-gnashing, hair-pulling, and some fiery discussions to come up with these rankings.

With this in mind, it is important to remember that these cars are very closely matched; there are no bad cars in this list, and what’s more, several very good EVs are missed by a fraction of a hair’s breadth; Honorable mentions should therefore go to the incomparably affordable MG ZS EV, the brilliantly practical Vauxhall Combo-E Life, a myriad of famed Teslas, the quiet capable Skoda Enyaq and the surprisingly sporty Ford Mustang Mach-E.

These are our runners-up. So what cars made it into our Top 10? Without further ado, and in reverse order, here are our choices of the EV market today.

NB: All prices quoted are ‘On The Road’ and do not take into account any government incentives. Where cited, serial and power consumption figures were obtained using the official WLTP Combined Test Cycle.
