“Give your friends the time they give you without worrying about being interrupted by the phone,” Apwasiwine said.

His main advice is to turn off the phone, but he also advised if you were to receive an important call at the event.

“If you’re really expecting an important call, you can ask the host or hostess, ‘Is it okay if I leave the phone on the table?'” said the etiquette master.

“That’s the highest level of respect for not being disturbed during the ubiquitous smartphone age.”

This is just one piece of advice Apwasiwine has given on its popular TikTok account.

“I would really like to thank you, but I’ve reached my limit,” he said in a video with more than 200,000 likes.

“Very nice of you, but I drive,” he also said.

And if the host insists, the TikToker said you can respectfully place your hand on your glass and say, “Thanks, but I’ve had enough.”

He also made a video on exactly what to do if your dinner partner is still eating after you finish.

“If your guest or partner is still eating and you don’t have a plate in front of you, it can make them anxious to finish their meal quickly because they don’t want to keep you up,” he said.

To avoid this awkward situation, Apwasiwin suggested you save your last bite for later.

He then told you to leave the morsel of food behind and cross your fork and knife from the plate.

“You know you’re done eating, but by doing that, the server knows not to take your plate,” he said.

“Then you can enjoy your wine. Your friend can eat his meal comfortably and at your leisure.”
