As expected, it was a monumental occasion, and it has now been confirmed that the final attracted the largest Australian audience in over 13 years.
According to TV tonighta whopping 837,000 people tuned in across the country, with the Herald Sun reporting the emotional episode averaged 1.2 million nationally and peaked at 1.41 million.
The Neighbors final was the most watched program that night, winning demographics between 16 and 54.
Also last night, fans of all ages united in Federation Square in Melbourne on Thursday (July 28) to say goodbye to Ramsay Street forever.
Quotes from onlookers describing what Neighbors meant to them appeared on screens, while some attendees had cardboard cutouts of characters such as Paul Robinson and Karl Kennedy.
Channel 5 is removing Neighbors from schedules to focus on making and broadcasting dramas made in the UK.
Fremantle Media – the production company that made the show – tried to find another home for it, but failed.
In the UK, fans can watch the penultimate . see episode in the usual slots of 1:45pm and 6pm tonight on Channel 5, with the history-making final episode at 9pm.
