Armed Forces Have Assured President Buhari A New Strategy To Deal With Terrorists? National Security Adviser

Nigeria’s armed forces have assured President Muhammadu Buhari of a new strategy to deal with the country’s terrorists and bandits.

Major General Babagana Monguno, National Security Adviser (NSA), made the announcement when he briefed reporters after a Security Council meeting in Abuja on Thursday, July 28.

“Armed forces have pledged to begin work in the coming weeks on a new strategy to deal with these fragments of violence,” he said.

“They have given their word and promise to the president that there will be a change in momentum, regardless of the fact that there may be certain institutional constraints they face. They have grasped the enormity of the responsibilities that they have.”

He said the National Security Council will soon complete its special investigation into the July 5 attack on the Kuje Correctional Center in which more than 600 terrorists escaped.

Monguno also advised media practitioners not to give broad publicity to the terrorists.

Monguno added: “We are in a very difficult situation. The Council understands that Mr President understands people’s concerns about the increasing insecurity.

“I can assure you that there is no direct, off-the-shelf method to deal with this and let’s all hug each other. I know people are tired, tired. People are starting to move to other places for self-help. The truth is that help is rooted in everyone who works for the other.”
