Arrest after drugs, ammunition found in gang attack

A man has been arrested and drugs and ammunition seized after a search of a well-known gang property in Christchurch.

Senior Detective Sergeant Craig Johnson said police conducted a search warrant this morning and a 34-year-old man was charged with a series of marijuana-related offenses and a charge of possession of ammunition.

He appeared in Christchurch District Court this afternoon.

Ammunition and drugs were also found during the search.

“Police have already warned that we will step up our enforcement and disruption of illegal gang activity across the country, and will continue to do so as Operation Cobalt rolls out. This means carrying out search warrants and making arrests for any identifiable offenses,” he said. It Snr. Sgt Johnson said.

“Our message to those involved is clear: The community expects zero tolerance for any violence, gang and drug activity.”

Police have worked hard to keep the community safe and will continue to target those involved in criminal activities, he said.

Police are appealing for information from anyone concerned about organized crime, gang activity or the illegal possession of firearms in their community.

“We rely on the eyes and ears of our community and want members who can help reduce the damage in our communities.”
