Royal author Gareth Russell said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be remembered for marking the end of the royal family’s mantra. The unofficial royal tradition has been followed by the Queen and the Queen Mother.
Russell told Us Weekly: “I think Harry and Megan will probably be remembered as the people who bury that attitude for themselves and for future generations of the royal family.
“And that may not be a bad thing.”
However, the royal expert added that he didn’t think Harry and Meghan would comment on provocative biographer Tom Bower’s new unofficial biography.
The investigative author makes a series of bombshell claims about the Sussexes in Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors.
Mr Russell said: “You cannot respond to everything.
“If you go out to answer every book or every accusation, it will take up your whole day.
“You have no free time to devote to your own mental health and well-being.”
“When you’re as famous as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, there’s going to be a lot of speculation.
“It always does no one any good in public life to always answer and refute those claims.”
Mr Russell’s comments come after Harry and Meghan spoke out about the monarchy in their controversial Oprah Winfrey interview in March 2021.
The couple, who live in California after resigning from their royal duties a year before the TV interview, made a series of explosive claims to the host of the American talk show.
In response, Buckingham Palace released a short 61-word statement stating that “some memories may differ”.
The royals are probably bracing for new claims with Harry releasing his all-encompassing memoir later this year.
The Duke previously said he wrote the book “not as the prince I was born, but as the man I have become”.
He said he would share “the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned” and promised it would be an “accurate and completely truthful” account of his life.
It comes as Harry and Meghan pursue a new life of personal and financial freedom across the pond after stepping back as working royals in March 2020.
