Cristiano Ronaldo laughed off a protest from Atletico Madrid supporters who told him he is ‘not welcome’ at the club.
The Manchester United attacker has told Erik ten Hag that he wants to leave the club and his agent, Jorge Mendes, repeated that on Tuesday at the club’s training ground.
The 37-year-old has seen hopes of moving to Chelsea crushed by Thomas Tuchel, while Bayern Munich have decided not to make a move for the veteran.
Despite his options dwindling, Ronaldo still plans to leave the Theater of Dreams and Diego Simeone is keen to sign him.
That is despite Ronaldo’s history with rivals Real Madrid, with Simeone thinking Ronaldo can still contribute in the Spanish capital.
But that is not a view shared by many Atletico supporters, who unveiled a banner on Thursday in protest at the club’s friendly match with Numancia.
The banner read: ‘CR7 not welcome’.
Ronaldo has reportedly informed United that he has received an offer from a club and that he would like the Red Devils to consider it.
It is unclear where that offer came from, as former club Sporting Lisbon would be interested.
Atletico’s financial situation means it’s unlikely to come from the Spaniards, but it’s unclear whether Ronaldo would be able to move, judging by his social media activity.
Commenting on an Instagram account showing the Atletico supporters’ banner, Ronaldo responded with a series of ‘cry face’ emojis.
Ronaldo has been left out of United’s roster for the squad’s friendly against Atletico in Oslo on Saturday.
Both Ten Hag and Simeone will probably have questions about the future of the striker.
