A version of the sequel to her groundbreaking 2016 album Lemonade has appeared online just 36 hours before the scheduled launch at midnight on July 29. Many Beyoncé fans were quick to condemn the leak and called on others to refuse to listen until the official launch.

That respect did not go unnoticed by Queen Bey, who posted a thank you note for fans on Friday.

She went on to say she was happy no one was trying to “sneak into the club early” and that it meant fans could enjoy the music together, the way it was meant to be enjoyed.

The message, handwritten in white ink on a black background, was accompanied by a photo of Beyonce in full 1970s-inspired Glamazon style, dressed in a silver lurex dress, sitting under a giant disco glitter ball — a reference to one of the album’s key words. influences, 70s disco icon Donna Summer.

Renaissance is Beyonce’s first new music since her 2019 soundtrack for The Lion King 2019, and her live album Homecoming, and the first solo music the star has released since 2016’s Lemonade.

According to The daily emailsongs on the album may refer to significant events in the singer’s private life, including her relationship with husband, rapper Jay Z.

The Renaissance album cover is linked to images of Lady Godiva.

For example, in the song Plastic On The Sofa, she sings that she and her husband, rapper Jay Z, “don’t need the world’s acceptance.”

“They’re too strict for me, they’re too strict for you, boy.”

Images on the album cover are linked to the medieval legend of Lady Godiva, who rode naked through the streets of Coventry in protest against taxation of the poor.

The term “peeping Tom” comes from this story, because legend says that people refused to look at her out of respect, except “Tom”, who peeked and was struck dumb and blind by her beauty.

In the liner notes to the album, Beyonce thanks Jay Z, who she describes as her muse, as well as their children.

“I would like to say a special thank you to Rumi, Sir and Blue for the space, creativity and inspiration,” she writes.

Renaissance is a “three acts” piece, the album of which was released on July 29. The acts were recorded “during three years of the pandemic”.

“A time to be quiet, but also a time to be most creative,” Beyonce wrote.

It’s not clear when the next two acts will be out, but it’s safe to say fans won’t be listening to leaked versions until they do. Renaissance is available to stream on Spotify now.
