A woman reportedly fell 30 feet from an amusement park ride and was found dead under the chairlift.
The woman, believed to be in her 20s, sat about three-quarters of the way through the 60-foot ride at the Anakeesta attraction in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. WVLT.
Witnesses said she “jumped out of the chairlift,” said city official Seth Butler.
Her body was found under the attraction.
The ride apparently continued to operate after the incident.
“You could see the concern on everyone’s faces,” another witness, Jay Deuro, told the TV station.
Anakeesta representatives said they continued to run the ride to get all the riders out.
“We mourn this tragic loss of life,” the theme park said. “Our deepest condolences go out to the family.”
During an ongoing investigation, police have determined that the woman may have committed suicide.
