Firefighters had to cut a man out of the upside-down car.

A car has overturned in an accident in Remuera in Auckland.

Emergency services closed Abbotts Way near the intersection with Winestone Drive after the accident around 8:30 am on Saturday, police confirmed.

“The first indications point to serious injuries.”

Remuera resident Mike Rowe was leaving the Waiatarua Reservation after walking his dog when he encountered the crash.

It appeared that the driver of the overturned car had parked another car parked in the street, which had ended up in a driveway, he said.

Seeing a baby seat in the back of the overturned car, Rowe feared the worst, but was relieved to discover the driver had been alone in the car.

The driver’s head was sticking out of the driver’s side window. It was supported by a woman.

A witness said it appeared that the driver of the overturned car had parked another car in the street.

Firefighters got the man out of the car and put him in an ambulance.

Police have asked motorists to avoid the area.
