Tom Tugendhat backs Liz Truss in another blow for Rishi Sunak

In a major boost to the campaign of the Foreign Minister, Mr Tugendhat wrote in The Times that its plans for massive tax cuts are “based on real” Conservative principles”.

The chairman of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee also criticized Rishi SunakThe tightening of fiscal policy, saying it is “not right” for the tax burden to rise when people go into winter with “fear”.

He wrote that Ms. Truss was the only candidate ready to become prime minister and unify the party.

“These debates have shown a different side of both candidates. Only one person has convinced me that she is ready… I support Liz.”

His endorsement is significant as he is popular among Conservative Party members and a senior figure in the One Nation group of centrist Tory MPs.

It’s another blow for Mr Sunak, after Defense Minister Ben Wallace also came out in support of Ms. Truss.

His support comes hours later Mr Sunak was grilled by Andrew Neil. from Channel 4 about his economic plans.
