Birds play! Kentucky Fried Chicken Says They Should Pause Popular Menu Deals As They Face Poultry Shortage

  • Bosses understood they had sent a memo to all fast food outlets
  • It has warned of a shortage of boneless chicken, beans and cans of Pepsi Max
  • Fast food giant pauses its WOW Tuesday offer with nine pieces of chicken

KFC says it has paused a popular menu deal because the chain is struggling with a shortage of chicken.

The bosses of the company are said to have sent a memo to all fast food branches warning of a shortage of chicken with bone, beans and cans of Pepsi Max.

The memo read: ‘Due to the shortage of COB [chicken on the bone]we’re pausing the WOW Tuesday offer again.

“We’ll confirm our position for the rest of the window once we’ve confirmed delivery.”

KFC’s popular WOW Tuesday deal offers nine pieces of chicken, along with a side order of beans and a can of Pepsi Max for £5.99.

But staff have been asked to remove the “Tuesday Big Deal” banner from all establishments, instead replacing it with ads from an “emergency folder” displaying the “Family Feast” and “Mighty Bucket for One” signs, The sun reports.

Bosses have said the WOW Tuesday deal will remain accessible at checkouts if chains have enough bone-in chicken to ease the pressure of “customer dissatisfaction.”

However, the memo has warned that customers will no longer be able to purchase the deal through newsstands or by ordering via their phone.

A date for the return of the offer has yet to be set, while staff have been told they will see ‘out of stock’ signs in all KFC depots over the weekend.

A spokesperson for the fast food giant said: “Recent challenges in the supply chain have left some of our restaurants facing a few shortages.

“We don’t want our fans to miss anything, but in order to maintain the Colonel’s high standards, we have had to temporarily suspend our deal from Tuesday.

“Nevertheless, it’s service as usual – all thanks to our incredible team members.

“They do a great job keeping the fryers running, so please be nice to them.”

It comes after KFC chiefs had to issue a similar supply warning in August last year.

The fast food chain said some menu items would be ‘not available’ and warned

Fast food chain owners warned today that some of the menu items “will not be available” on some meals that come in packaging that is “different from normal.”

And in 2018, thousands of KFC employees on zero-hours contracts faced anxious wait times over their pay after a chicken supply crisis left them unable to work.

At its peak, the crisis left half of KFC’s 900 UK branches closed.

The shortage fiasco in 2018 started when KFC switched its supply contract to Germany’s DHL.

It was caused by an accident that closed off the M6, causing a traffic jam and reportedly leaving DHL’s trucks in traffic for hours, causing a huge backlog of deliveries.

DHL blamed “operational problems” for the supply disruption, with KFC removing items from the menu and shortening their opening hours, before hundreds of branches were forced to close.
