Dan Jarvis: British swimmers come out as gay before the Commonwealth Games

B.

British swimmer Dan Jarvis has appeared as gay.

The 26-year-old Olympic athlete has announced that he will be competing for Wales in Birmingham ahead of the Commonwealth Games next month.

Jarvis won the men’s 1500m freestyle silver medal at the 2018 Games in Australia and the bronze medal at the same event in Glasgow four years ago.

Welshman also hopes to reach the Olympic finals at Team GB in Tokyo last summer to inspire those suffering from sexuality.

“It took me 24 years to know who I was,” Jarvis said. “I was acclimatized to everything else. I was just trying to get stuck until I thought.

“As you know, we are just before the Commonwealth Games and are watching over children and adults who know that I am like them and proud of who I am.”

Jarvis, who was speaking on the BBC’s LGBT sports podcast, added: They hate themselves so much that they are ending their lives.

“So if anyone can see and say,’Yes, they’re like me,’ that’s good.”

Jarvis said he revealed his sexuality to a close friend at the age of 24. He continued.

“I told her:” I think I’m gay. “I couldn’t even say” I’m gay. ” I was basically punching out the words.

“She was pretty shocked, but great. That was exactly the reaction I wanted. I did all the good reactions, and the way I explained it was going to change as a person. Is not.

“Each person’s journey is different, but I think I’ve always known. It’s something deep inside my heart that bothered me. I’m bisexual and I have a girlfriend I love. I thought, but about three years ago I knew I had to deal with this.

“It didn’t affect my swimming, but it did affect me as a human. Sounds pretty dramatic, but I didn’t enjoy my life. Yeah, I. Was laughing, but something was missing to make me properly happy.

“I’m still Dan you always know. You now know something else about me.”
