Aaron Gate, Campbell Stewart, Jordan Kerby and Tom Sexton crush England in Commonwealth Games gold medal race.
The promising 20-year-old was named after the brilliant Brazilian Ronaldinho (meaning ‘Little Ronald’) after the attacker scored a memorable goal from a free kick against England in the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup, the website Olympics.com reported.
When he saw the match on TV, Ronaldo’s father had apparently placed a bet when Ronaldinho arranged the free kick he would score. The possibly apocryphal story goes that as the ball went past hapless England goalkeeper David Seaman, Mr Singh got a phone call to say his wife was going into labour.
Indian Ronaldo first discovered cycling at the age of 14 during a talent competition in his hometown.
At the age of 17, he won India’s first gold medal at a UCI Road World Championships as part of the men’s team sprint at the junior worlds in Germany in 2019.
David Beckham Elkatohchoongo hails from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in southern India.
The 18-year-old only started the sport five years ago. He lost his father in a tsunami in 2004 and his mother died 10 years later, leaving David Beckham living with his grandfather ever since.
