billions across the country can cause serious travel disruption on Saturday due to a 24-hour strike organized by train drivers.

The Insult trade union, which represents trains drivers of seven operators, is conducting a run on wage demands, which will affect the London Overground, LNER trains, SoutheastGreat Western, Greater Anglia, Hull Trains and all Heathrow Express trains.

Passengers have also been warned that Southern and Thameslink services will be overused and potentially disrupted. Passengers hoping to travel south west, south east and the Midlands from London have all been advised to expect some travel disruption.

Andy Lord, Chief Operating Officer of Transport for London, said: “Planned strike action on national rail network on Saturday means inconvenience to our customers.

“As no service is expected on the entire London Overground network, I recommend that all customers check before traveling and use alternative routes to complete their journey.”

Head of Aslef explains strike action

Mick Whelan, the union general secretary, has explained why members are on strike today.

He says: “We don’t want to inconvenience passengers, our friends and families also use public transport, and we don’t want to lose money by going on strike, but we have been forced into this position by the companies, who say they will do this.” are driven by the Tory government.

“Many of our members, the men and women who transported key workers and goods across the country during the pandemic, have not had a pay rise since 2019.

“With inflation north of 10%, that means those drivers have had a real pay cut over the past three years.

“We want an increase in line with the cost of living, we want to be able to buy in 2022 what we could buy in 2021.

“It’s not unreasonable to ask your employer to make sure you’re not worse off three years in a row.”
