A mother was left horrified after something ‘stringy’ in her bag of chips turned out to be a ‘cooked spider’.
Sabrina Hussain was happy to eat a pack of Walkers chips with cheese and onion when she realized something wasn’t right.
She pulled out a strangely shaped find from the bag after already mocking half of the contents.
The mother of two claims the strange discovery was in fact a “cooked spider” that got into the bag before it was sealed.
Sabrina, of Winson Green in Birmingham, felt “physically ill” and had to rush to her bathroom to throw up.
She has since recovered from the incident, which took place on July 28, but is demanding answers about the insect that ended up in her bag of chips.
Sabrina joked that finding the suspicious creature was “karma” for eating potato chips for breakfast.
She told Birmingham Live: ‘I still feel very sick. I really don’t know what it is, it looks like a stripped spider boiled down with the chips.
“It looked like some kind of string tying it to the crisp, dangling from it. I don’t want to touch it, it’s disgusting.’
The Walkers bag had cost £1 at her local shop, Sabrina added.
She has vowed to avoid chips in the future as a result of the scare this week.
“Every now and then I just feel like a bag of cheese and onion,” she explained.
She said, ‘I was just in the mood for some this morning, so I went to the store and bought some… I know it’s really bad, this is probably karma for crisps for breakfast.
“I was sitting there, eating away and watching TikTok, and then I grabbed another chips and happened to look at it. I thought “what the hell is that?”
‘I started throwing up, it made me physically sick. I came back to it later to see what it was and took a picture and put it on my social media to see if anyone could tell me what it was.”
Since then, Sabrina has called Walkers and given her the barcode number of her packet of crisps.
She had hoped for an apology, but claims she hasn’t heard anything yet.
She added: ‘I keep watching the sharp and gagging. I don’t know if it’s mind over matter, but I’ve been sick three times already and I have a stomachache. It certainly kept me from eating chips for life.’
A Walkers spokesperson apologized for the spider scare when he was contacted.
An investigation has been launched to find out more about the freaky find.
The spokesperson said: “We are sorry to hear that Sabrina found something unexpected in her backpack.
“We take all complaints very seriously and the safety and quality of our products are our top priorities.
“We have robust quality control procedures in place at all our manufacturing sites to ensure our products meet the highest standards.
“We’re staying in touch with Sabrina so we can investigate further.”
There’s been a series of curious finds in crispy packages this year, but nothing more terrifying than a dead spider.
Earlier this month Helen Reed, from Yorkshire, was stunned to discover that her packet of cheese and onion chips—Real Crisps instead of Walkers—contained a rogue potato, which she said was ‘damp’ and ‘stinky’.
“It was a decent size, slightly bigger than a golf ball,” she said.
And in February, 22-year-old Katherine Allan stumbled upon a baked potato in her bag of Salt and Vinegar Kettle Chips.
The recent graduate and food blogger told Metro.co.uk: ‘I was shocked! The whole package was old and then I found the potato.’
