Unseen images of The x Factor UK has revealed that a mediocre first performance of Harry Styles was cut and an improved second track aired instead.
An extended version of his audition that was first released shows the then 16-year-old pulling out Hey, Soul Sister by Train.
But the gig was never broadcast on the 2010 version of the ITV competition show and now, 12 years later, it has finally been unearthed.
In the video, judge Louis Walsh was initially impressed with the choice and told the A direction star it was his ‘favorite song on the charts’.
After a somewhat racy performance of the hit, Simon Cowell, 62, jumped in and asked the Watermelon Sugar singer if he could sing a cappella.
“I don’t know if it’s the track that knocks you out, but can I hear something that’s just you without music?” said the music mogul.
An unfazed Harry, now 28, without breaking a sweat, simply suggested Is’t She Lovely? by Stevie Wonder.
It was this performance of the iconic song that made it to the final of The X Factor UK, earning Harry a coveted spot in the next round.
Imagine if they never gave him a second chance?!
Other never-before-seen footage from the star making audition shows Harry chatting with Simon about his previous job in a bakery.
Simon asked, “What are you doing in the bakery?”
“I like, serve the cakes in the shop,” Harry said with a straight face to the delight of the audience, who burst into laughter.
Harry went on to share some delicious morsels of information about his past profession, revealing that the Viennese biscuits and millionaire shortbread were the most popular sweet treats.
Unfortunately, it was a bad time for white Coburg bread (even Simon had to ask Harry what it was), which, according to the Dunkirk actor, didn’t appeal to customers.
Harry blew on a raspberry and stuck his thumb down, expressing his displeasure at the bread, sparking more giggles from the crowd.
It marks the second time in recent weeks that X Factor bosses have released never-before-seen footage of members of One Direction.
Last Saturday, footage revealed who really was behind the formation of one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.
And no, it wasn’t Liam Payne.
The 28-year-old had claimed on Logan Paul’s podcast that Simon formed the quintet ‘around his face.’
Not only did Liam almost miss the cut, with Simon expressing his reservations about the Strip That Down singer, but it was real Nicole Scherzinger who had a heavy influence in the final arrangement.
