Tropical weather will hit the UK in the coming days with ‘sultry’ conditions with a mixture of 29°C of heat and rain.
Heavy showers coming from the Atlantic will ravage parts of the country this weekend, while southern and eastern areas will be hot and humid, forecasters say.
Thunderstorms could rumble before temperatures reach the high 20s from Monday.
With Office forecaster Tom Morgan said: ‘Many areas will be very hot and humid with a lot of cloud cover, even at night, with temperatures reaching 20°C in the early hours – meaning uncomfortable nights for sleep ahead.
‘The strange rumble of thunder can be heard in remote areas, and it will be quite stuffy and humid, typical of conditions in tropical countries.
“Daytime temperatures can reach 29°C in southern areas, but it will feel uncomfortable and clammy.”
In the northern, central and western areas, about 30 to 40 mm of rain could fall on Monday and Tuesday, but ‘nothing disturbing’ and ‘useful for farmers and horticulturists’.
The National Farmers’ Union (NFU) is particularly concerned about farmers experiencing a lack of rainfall and grass growth in the center, east and south of the country.
just last week, England warned it could face drought with restrictions on water use if the dry weather persisted.
The right amount of rain could offset this threat and it looks like the country can get it.
But the rain won’t last too long as it is expected to get cooler and drier from Wednesday – with temperatures around 20 degrees.
