The hopeful Tory leadership has pledged to cut VAT on utility bills during its prime ministerial campaign. Liz Truss’ campaign called it a “screeching U-turn”, as during the Tory leadership match Mr Altar has repeatedly branded its tax cut plans as “comforting fairy tales.” The former chancellor also rejected calls for a VAT cut in utility bills in February, telling the Commons that “there would be no guarantee that suppliers would pass the discounts on to all customers”.

Journalist Lizzie Cundy told GB News: “He keeps saying, ‘I worked in a chemist’.

“Frankly, I think he should go back and work at that pharmacy because he never goes to Prime Minister.

“It’s so polished, so full of tinsel. It’s all chatter.

“He is now making a fiscal turnaround, which is desperation.

“I don’t think people of the nation can relate to someone who is married to a billionaire.

“He has no idea and it does matter if he wears Prada shoes, people notice things like that.

“Let me tell you, members of the Conservative party don’t like infidelity and who would do that to your fellow work colleague?”

“We have the highest tax level in 70 years.

“I want a country where people who work hard and do the right thing, set up their own businesses, go to work, are rewarded, and that’s why I want to lower taxes.

“That’s why I would reverse the increase in national insurance, which we promised not to do in our manifesto.

“We have to continue with that, we have to grow the economy.”
