In a five-minute video, Smith spoke directly about the incident and answered questions about the March 27 blow.

Asked why he didn’t apologize to Rock during his Best Actor acceptance speech for King Richard, which came minutes later, Smith said: “I was misted at the time. It’s all vague.

“I have contacted Chris and the message that came back is that he is not ready to talk yet and when he is he will be in touch.

“So I’ll say to you Chris, I apologize. My behavior was unacceptable and I am here whenever you want to talk.”

When asked if his wife had caused his decision to storm the stage and hit Rock, Smith replied, “No, I made my own choice, from my own experience and my history with Chris.”

He also addressed his wife directly, apologizing for the impact on the family, saying, “I’m sorry honey, and I want to apologize to my children and my family for the heat I put all of us through.”
