Daredevil climbs to the top of one of Dubai’s tallest buildings and hangs away with one hand

A British free-climber recorded the moment he hung from Dubai’s tallest crane, more than 1,000 feet in the air, with only his hand.

Adam Lockwood pulled up his hard hat and posed as a worker to gain access to Dubai’s tallest crane – so he could hang 1280 feet above the city, as seen in this nail-biting video.

At the top of the crane, he let himself hang by using only his grip and torso to prevent him from falling, in an experience he describes as fairly ‘peaceful’.

He performed the death-defying trick from the crane on top of the 77-storey residential skyscraper Il Primo, directly next to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.

Adam Lockwood climbed to the very top of a crane attached to the Il Primo skyscraper in Dubai, right next to the Burj Khalifa, and hung on one hand.

Dizzying views of the city can be seen beneath him as he hangs on metal bars, covered with slippery grease, making it even more astonishing that he did not shower after his death.

A fall from this height will have about nine seconds of free fall before it reaches the ground.

Adam said, ‘When I first looked at the footage, I thought to myself,’ this is it, this is the most incredible thing I’ve ever done. ‘

‘The fact that I hung the tallest crane in Dubai on the doorstep of the world’s tallest building is something special and I feel it was definitely worth the risk and the legal consequences if I was caught.

‘I put on a hard hat to interfere with as I walked past 100 workers and slipped out the back gate without being noticed.

‘When I climbed up with the jib, I quickly realized the whole crane was covered with grease that I could not even see, at first I thought it was dust from the desert, but look at my hands it’s fat, feet and hands slipping on everything I touched.

‘I had four close calls as I climbed up and down. I also had some close calls. ‘

Nervous footage of the dangerous stunt last week shows Adam hanging on to his hands or legs high above Dubai’s busy streets.

But he seems completely unphased by the risks he takes as he moves quietly around the crane without any restrictions to prevent him from falling.

Adam, from Manchester, said: ‘Hanging things off does not feel like much, it feels surreal to be suspended so high without any security, but like all my others hanging out, my brain is empty, my heart rate is not going up not, and it feels almost peaceful.

‘This is something I know I can do and that 99 percent of the world can and never will do, so I feel compelled to use my ability and enjoy it in the process.

‘I like to see things from a height, I like to let my body hang hundreds of meters in the air, I like the challenges of infiltrating safe places to achieve these goals and it’s something that drives me kept alive since I started, and I do not think I can give it up.

“I slept all day when I came back to my accommodation because I was so tired.”

Even if it’s not the first crane he hung on to.

The crane climb is not the first time Adam has performed a hair trick on an iconic world structure.

In April, I hung out of the 262-foot San Siro Stadium in Milan, and later scaled down the famous glass pyramid at the Louvre in Paris to take a brutal selfie.

In 2020, he did at the end of a beam high on the 1,115-foot (340 m) high Plomin power station in Croatia.

He also previously climbed a 470-foot skyscraper in Barcelona – barefoot and waved to shocked crowds below.

His stunts had previously gotten him into trouble when a court banned him from climbing tall buildings, which he later broke through and narrowly escaped jail.
