Meta finally adds Quest video recording settings for developers

The Meta Quest (formerly Oculus Quest) finally has video recording settings.

Well, at least that’s true for developers.

A new update to the Oculus Developer Hub, first spotted by Heartlands developer Robert Aldridge, enables a series of video recording settings. Perhaps most importantly, the settings let you change the resolution, frame rate and aspect ratio for your shot, letting you choose a 16:9 window capture up to 4K at 60 fps.

You can even change the recording to include stereoscopic recording or change the bit rate to match the quality of the recording to your needs.

We tested the new features in the headset. Changing the aspect ratio gives you a permanent black border that shows exactly what is captured in your shot. It’s an incredibly useful feature for those trying to capture Quest gameplay for videos and trailers, although in our experiments with Mothergunship: Forge, performance took a hit due to the game loading slower in new areas.

Since the shooting options also cut out large areas of your view, the default shot on the device is still the best option for capturing the entire world around you.

Of course, you must have an Oculus developer account to actually access the Developer Hub, so it’s not possible to change these settings for regular Quest 2 users at this time. We asked Meta if it plans to bring these features to standard Quest accounts as well. For now, you can change recording settings using features on SideQuest if you allow access to your device from unknown sources.
