After snatching a fourth NBA championship and being named the final MVP, Stephen Curry will not cross the off-season. The Golden State Warriors superstar has been booked to host The ESPYS hosted by Capital One on July 20 in Los Angeles.
The performance, his first presentation of a major live TV event, coincides with Curry’s three individual ESPY nominations this year, including Best Athlete in Men’s Sport, Best Record Performance (for most 3-pointers in NBA history) and the best NBA player. He was also named best team along with his Golden State Warriors.
“I had the pleasure of attending the ESPYS, but never thought I would have the privilege of hosting this special event,” Curry said in a statement. “As someone who loves crossing sports and entertainment, I look forward to delivering an exciting show for the fans as we celebrate the athletes who created the top moments of the year.”
Rob King, editor-in-chief of ESPN Content, said the team was delighted to have Curry join this year, calling him “one of the brightest stars in the sports constellation.” King added: “Whether he’s shining on the track, engaging with fans on social platforms or showing a commitment to communities through diverse philanthropic acts, he’s a unique artist who will undoubtedly shine our celebration of some of this year’s most captivating moments. “
The ESPYS is co-produced by ESPN and Full Day Prods. As part of Curry’s hosting agreement, his partner at Unanimous Media, Erick Peyton, will join the program as co-executive producer. The pair and their unanimous team entered into a global partnership with Comcast NBCUniversal last fall. Curry also recently presented HBO Max’s reality series About last night with his wife, Ayesha Curry. The Unanimous guide, focused on family, sports and faith-based content, also produces ABC’s sports reality competition series Holey Moleycurrently in its fourth season.
