The Umbrella Academy is back! Netflix debuted the third season of its hit superhero show in June, giving fans what they’ve been waiting for since 2020. Based on the comics by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy follows a family of superheroes. Or rather a foster family of anti-heroes. When 43 women mysteriously give birth in 1989, despite previous signs of pregnancy, billionaire industrialist Sir Reginald Hargreeves adopts as many as he can. With the seven under his wing, he founds the Umbrella Academy, where he trains his super-powered children to one day save the world. Years later, they reunite to solve the mystery of their father’s death, but major personalities clash as they grapple with conspiracies, apocalypses, time travel and more.

Perhaps the most obvious show like The Umbrella Academy, Doom Patrol sees a group of outsiders with superpowers developed during traumatic events brought together to investigate bizarre phenomena. When their leader and mentor go missing, they reunite to find out what happened to him.

Based on the comics by Rick Remender and Wes Craig, and starring To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before actress Lana Condor, Deadly Class follows the kids at an elite private school that serves as a training ground for the kids of the world’s biggest crime families in the 1980s.

Misfits, with Robert Sheehan of The Umbrella Academy, is a British drama about a group of juvenile delinquents who are assigned community service together. Their interpersonal conflicts take on new dimensions when an electrical storm leaves the group with mysterious superpowers. Now they must work together to understand their newfound gifts.

Okay, this one is clearly an outlier among shows like The Umbrella Academy, but listen to us. Succession is about a wealthy and powerful media mogul and patriarch who manipulates his grown children, pitting them against each other and making them do as he pleases in the faint hope that he could pass control of his company to one of them. Like the Hargreeves, the Roy children have a complex relationship with their father and with each other, leading to constant drama and conflict.

New laws allow officers to wear masks and hide their identities after an attack by white supremacists kills most of Tulsa’s police force. One of those new agents is Angela Abar, aka Sister Night, who takes on racists as she deals with the vigilante legacy decades after the events of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ celebrated comic strip Watchmen.

Sense8, one of the best Netflix original series, is also a great choice on shows like The Umbrella Academy. Eight complete strangers are brought together when they are mysteriously linked by a psychic bond. The senses share an awareness from around the world and work together to fight an evil organization that wants to take them out.

Orphan Black, filmed in Toronto like The Umbrella Academy, also dealt with conspiracies and found family. Sarah is an orphan with a difficult past. When she witnesses a woman who looks like her complete suicide, Sarah assumes her identity in hopes of starting a better life. Things don’t quite go according to plan when she finds out that the woman was her clone, and just one of many. Now Sarah is looking to find out who did this and why.

Another Netflix superhero show, Jupiter’s Legacy, also tackles family and generational conflicts between super-powered protagonists. The first generation of Earth heroes, forged during the Great Depression, is aging. Now their kids and other super-powered youngsters are taking over, but not all agree that the old rules still apply.

If crazy, dark, funny superhero antics are your speed, Legion is a pretty awesome choice. David Haller has been treated for his schizophrenia since childhood. After a strange encounter with another mental patient, he begins to realize that he may not be imagining anything. He soon finds himself working with a team of mutants like him, evading the capture of a shadowy government organization.
