Glastonbury Festival attendees break mobile data records when thousands of people gather on social media

EE revealed that festival attendees at this year’s Glastonbury used a record amount of mobile data as thousands shared photos and videos of their favorite performances.

The network states that data consumption has increased significantly by 76% compared to the last event before Covid in 2019.

In total, the company alone processed 182 terabytes of data.

That’s the equivalent of viewing 7.2 billion Instagram posts over the weekend and downloading the Beatles hit Hey Jude 5.4 million.

Demand is skyrocketing as attendees increasingly share the content of big events on social media.

Glastonbury’s technology partner EE has also released a festival planning app.

The company said 5.6 million performances were added by users.

And the most popular was Diana Ross, who was selected by 53,000 fans.

The festival also starred Billie Eilish, Paul McCartney and Kendrick Lamar.

A total of about 193,000 devices have downloaded the app, 39,000 of which are watching at home.
