A dog that went missing for days was rescued by a government official from a drainage pipe after attempts to lure him with peanut butter treats and cheese failed.

Golden Retriever Lilah disappeared near Binghamton, New York, on Friday afternoon. Her owner, Rudy Fuehrer, was walking with his two other dogs, both Lilah’s offspring, on Sunday morning when he heard a familiar moan.

“I said, ‘Oh my God, it’s Lilah!'” Führer said.

Fuehrer tried to use the human snacks to lure the 13-year-old dog out of the diving pipe, which was under a rural road, but the dog did not express. It was then that Fuehrer decided to reach 911.

State poacher Jimmy Rasaphone and his partner arrived within minutes. Since he was the smallest of the three, Rasaphone decided to take matters into his own hands.

Rasaphone crawled 15 feet into the narrow pipe, which Fuehrer said was less than two feet in diameter.

“He bent down and literally disappeared into the hole with a lead that had a choker on it,” Führer said.

“He could somehow manipulate his arms and get the choker around the dog’s head.”

Rasaphone came forward with Lilah, both soaking wet.

The Führer was grateful that the trooper was kind enough to climb down and was dirty to save his dog. Lilah’s recovery went well and she went for a walk with her neighbor again.

“Needless to say, I took her out on a leash,” Führer said, “because I did not want any more escapades.”
