Joe Biden’s brave bet on vehicle loading

WASHINGTON – The Biden administration has announced $ 700 million in private-sector commitments to build and expand the vehicle charging infrastructure needed to switch to low-emission cars and trucks.

The National EV Charging Initiative – made up of groups representing many of the companies promising these investments and workforce development efforts today – coordinates public and private efforts to deliver a broad and equitable charging infrastructure.

“Given the task ahead, we need both public and private investment in charging infrastructure to scale up as quickly as possible – and deliver a clean-managed future,” said Colleen Quinn, president of eMobility Advisors and one of the coalition’s organizers. “President Biden’s announcement today shows that the private sector is acting to do its part.”

The National EV Charging Initiative last year released guidelines on how to make these levy investments. The principles are intended to help guide how the historic $ 7.5 billion investment in levies included in the two-party infrastructure law will be spent, and to help stimulate other investments.

“Given the rise in gasoline prices, the economic case for electric cars and trucks is getting stronger every day,” said Max Baumhefner, a senior lawyer at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council). “But drivers need the assurance that they can fill electricity as easily as they can with petrol. This combination of risky private and public investment will help give Americans that security. ”

The members of the EV Charging Initiative work with states and the administration to ensure that the expansion of the EV charging network is done quickly and in accordance with the inclusive values set out by the Biden administration.

the National EV Charging Initiative brings together car manufacturers, power suppliers, leaders of electric vehicles and charging industry, labor and public interest groups to indicate that they are ready, willing and able to support federal action on a national charging network for light, medium and heavy duty vehicles. Members work together to accelerate ready-to-load infrastructure projects that will put people to work, provide the economy with billions of dollars in investment and increase access to clean transportation.
