Eddie Jones insists England are ready to hunt the Wallabies as they prepare to face off on and off the pitch on their three-test tour of Australia.

Jones has named a 36-man squad with recalls for number 8 Billy Vunipola and scrum half Danny Care, but considers Joe Marler, Ben Youngs and Elliot Daly to be big-name omissions.

England’s last visit to Australia in 2016 ended with a stunning whitewash run, but Jones and his tourists had to overcome a coordinated campaign of disruption off the pitch, including the head coach having to endure a lengthy search for his luggage at Brisbane Airport.

As a taste of things to come, the host broadcaster has made a trailer of the series that sees annoying and sunburnt fans of red roses drinking tea and eating pies before being interrupted by Wallabies-proper Taniela Tupou.

“We have to go after them. We have a whole intention of going after them,” said Jones, who has won all eight meetings with Australia as England manager. “Davie Rennie’s games traditionally want to play the front foot, so it’s about who wins the front foot.

“There will be really hard, flat tracks and abusive crowds. They are in the face, the Australians. The media will be watching us – they are aggressive.

“It’s a very aggressive environment. You can learn so much about your players and your team on those tours and we missed that.”

“I’m sure it will be fun. For Australians it will be the biggest tour and it will be huge. It will be fantastic for rugby and it will be fantastic for our squad.”
