Arsenal transfer news and rumours: Lisandro Martinez bid; Gabriel Jesus last; Wilshere in conversation

RSenal remain determined to assert their authority in the summer transfer market after a few early moves.

Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira have made the move to North London along with Matt Turner, with Gabriel Jesus to follow.

That announcement is expected today, while the Gunners are also on the hunt for a new defender.

Ajax star Lisandro Martinez appears to be their top priority in that pursuit, if they can hold off rival Manchester United interest, while Jack Wilshere could be poised for a return to the academy lineup.

Here’s your morning update from Arsenal transfer news and rumours…

Lisandro Martinez

After bids of £26m and £34m were knocked back by Ajax, Arsenal return with a third bid for the Argentine centre-back with higher add-ons.

The Sun is demanding £43 million before the Amsterdam giants consider letting Martinez leave.

Manchester United have since expressed their interest and Ajax is said to want to wait and see if they will make an offer before making a judgment on Arsenal’s latest offer.

Arsenal could announce the signing of Gabriel Jesus today.

Medical treatment has already been completed for the £45million Manchester City man, and he was pictured earlier this week hugging technical director Edu before sealing the deal.

Arsenal will show Jesus with his new No9 shirt when confirmation is finally released.

Jack Wilshere

Arsenal have held talks with former player Wilshere about returning to the club, Standard Sport’s Simon Collings revealed.

However, the encounter would almost certainly see the 30-year-old hang up his boots as he is one of the candidates for the vacant Under-23 and Under-18 Manager roles.

No decision has yet been made that the Gunners will also consider internal candidates for promotion to the positions.
