Liz Truss dismisses ‘kangaroo court’ fears despite No10 concerns over MPs party gate probe

liz Truss has dismissed No. 10’s fears that the Privileges Committee investigating whether Boris Johnson misled parliament over the party gate could turn into a “kangaroo court”.

The Foreign Secretary also said she has no “problem” with Harriet Harman, the veteran Labor MP who chairs the committee.

Downing Street sources told The Telegraph they believe the investigation will become a “kangaroo court” after the commission announced its willingness to grant witnesses anonymity.

Allies of Mr Johnson accused the committee of relying on “hearsay evidence” and also questioned why Ms Harman was allowed to chair the inquiry, despite the Labor powerhouse suggesting as late as April that Mr Johnson had lied .

Ms Truss was asked if she shared fears that the inquiry could become a “kangaroo court” and told Sky News: “No, we have these trials in Parliament. The trial has started. Now we have to wait for the outcome .”

When asked about Ms Harman who is leading the investigation, the Secretary of State said she sees no problem with that.
