Lawan reads Shekarau's defector letter to NNPP

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has finally read the letter of resignation from Ibrahim Shekarau, a former governor of Kano state and senator representing Kano’s central senatorial district.

Shekarau’s letter, who defected from the All Progressive Party to the New Nigeria Peoples Party sometime in May, was read in plenary on Wednesday, June 29.

The former governor had obtained his NNPP membership card in his Giginyu district in the presence of the highest echelons of the party and politicians, such as the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, and a former member of the House of Representatives, Sulieman Sumaila. .

In his letter of resignation, Shekarau cited injustice, marginalization and unfairness by Kano governor Abdullahi Gantuve as reasons for his departure from the party.

Read the statement;

“I am kindly writing to inform you formally of my resignation from the All Progressives Congress and my declaration to the New Nigerian People’s Party.

“My resignation from the APC arose from the marginalization of all major critical stakeholders and a lack of internal democracy in the Kano State chapter of the APC, plus the total absence of the principle of inclusiveness in party affairs and its Government at all levels in the state.

“All attempts to resolve the long-running crisis in the state over the past two years, including the involvement of the APC National Headquarters, have failed due to the non-cooperation of Kano State Governor and the state party leadership. .

“Therefore, after thorough consultation with like-minded people and millions of our supporters in the state, we have decided to revoke our membership of the APC and move to the New Nigeria People’s Party.

“Please accept my brotherly goodwill and continued cooperation at all times.”
