AMAZON has apologized for selling fake versions of Dame Deborah James’ Rebellious Hope t-shirt.
The shirt was designed to raise money for Dame Debs’ Bowelbabe charity for Cancer Research UK, but callous crooks carried their own pockets online with counterfeits.
When The Sun brought it to Amazon’s attention last night, the retail giant removed the garments from the sale.
A spokesperson said: “Like many, we were saddened to hear of Dame Deborah James’ death.
“We are in the process of removing all products that make any suggestion of a link with Dame Deborah James or the related charities and apologize for any distress caused.”
Last night, counterfeits were still sold on some market sites Etsy and eBay. The Sun also contacted them.
It comes as friends of Lady Debs’ generous Briton encouraged her to push her BowelBabe fund past £ 10m as the ultimate “thank you”.
Inspirational Debs, 40, died on Tuesday and her total now stands at £ 7 million.
Dame Debs’ original Rebellious Hope t-shirt was designed by her with In The Style, with 100% of the profits from every £ 15 donated to charity.
A spokesperson for In The Style said they were made aware of the counterfeit versions sold online.
The spokesman added: “It is clear that it is horrible, not least because it follows the sad news of Deborah’s death. These items do not raise money for charity and are not Deborah’s designs – customers unfortunately spend money on these products with the false belief that they are continuing Deborah’s legacy. ”
The t-shirts, adorned with Dame Debs’ slogan Rebellious Hope, were an important part of her last days.
She previously said: “Rebel Hope is what has brought me through the last few years. Seeing all your messages, labels and support was just the best and I am so grateful that we were able to do it together! ”
