TelevisaUnivision Streaming Service ViX+ Launching July 21 – The Hollywood Reporter

The Streaming Wars will have a new competitor next month.

TelevisaUnivision says it will launch its Spanish-language SVOD service ViX+ on July 21, initially in the US, Mexico and Latin America. The service costs $6.99 per month in the US and MX$119 in Mexico.

The launch of the SVOD marks the culmination of the $4.8 billion merger between Televisa and Univision, which completed earlier this year. Led by CEO Wade Davis and executive chairman Alfonso de Angoitia, after the deal was first announced more than a year ago, the companies said the ultimate plan was to launch a global Spanish-language streaming service.

“As the streaming market becomes more cluttered and competitive, we believe the Spanish-language streaming market is underserved and the last major opportunity for streaming,” Davis said at the time.

Since then, the combined company has grown, acquiring smaller streaming competitors and signing deals with talent like Eugenio Derbez and Selena Gomez to produce programming for the service.

Earlier this year, the company highlighted the service, which also has an ad-supported tier.

“ViX is not a repurposing of our TV offerings,” said Pierluigi Gazzolo, president and chief transformation officer at TelevisaUnivision. “We invest a significant amount of incremental dollars in content and sports rights outside of our networks. It’s more original content in Spanish than anyone else – no matter what.”

ViX+ launches with over 10,000 hours of content, both originals and library content from Univision and Televisa’s programming pool. It will also feature a whopping 7,000 hours of live sports, including Liga MX and UEFA Champion’s League football.

Part of the launch programming includes the scripted programs The Devil’s WifeThe Devil’s Wife) and Maria Felix: The Ladyas well as the docuseries My neighbor the poster

Also available at launch and in the week after the movies will be Mirreyes vs. Godinez 2, “El Retiro”Mirreys vs. Godinez 2 “The Retreat”), a sequel to a popular 2019 film and sick lovesick love
