The best new TV shows to stream this week on Netflix, Hulu and more

It’s our weekly list of the best new TV shows to stream this week. However, we know that the number one thing people will be watching is the second installment of Stranger Things season 4. That said, there are second seasons of two critically acclaimed comedies to watch, along with the debut of a new action thriller starring Chris. Pratt. There’s a new comedy special to watch and a new series of animated shorts based on a popular Disney movie. Let’s take a look at the best new TV shows to stream this week.

Best new streaming TV shows this week

The hottest TV show of the year (at least so far) made us wait a few weeks ago to finish season 4. Now we’ll finally get to see the final two “episodes” (actually two four-hour movies of the total content) of the final season of Stranger Things on Netflix. Who will live? Is someone going to die? Will Hawkins himself survive the wrath of the evil Vecna? Whatever happens, these last two segments will likely set up the show’s fifth and final season as well.

Hulu debuted this surprising streaming hit show in 2021 and now it returns for a second season. As before, it centers on three true crime fans (Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez) who all live in the same New York City apartment building and try to solve murders that take place in that area, much to the chagrin of the NYPD. In the second season, this trio is actually arrested for another murder. What happens now? We don’t know yet, but we do know that there will be some big guest stars this season, including Amy Schumer and Shirley MacLaine.

Chris Pratt seems to be all over the entertainment world lately. He stars in the recent film Jurassic World: Dominion and will reprise his role as Star Lord in Thor: Love and Thunder later in July. Before that happens, he also stars in this action thriller series for Amazon Prime Video. He plays James Reece, a former Navy SEAL who is still on his last mission, which involved killing his entire platoon except him. He can’t quite remember what happened that day, and now he wants some answers.

Netflix debuts the second season of this traditional family sitcom this week. Mike Epps, Kim Fields and Wanda Sykes (who also co-created the show) return as key members of this extended Indianapolis working-class family.

Baymax, the lovable medical robot turned superhero in Disney Animation Studio’s surprise film Big Hero 6, is back with a new series of animated shorts on Disney Plus. This series focuses on Baymax’s day job as a nursing robot, while trying to help people in his own interesting way.

Cristela Alonzo: Middle Class (Netflix)

Cristela Alonzo is back this week with her second stand-up special on Netflix. Alonzo is best known for her roles as the creator and star of her own ABC sitcom Cristela and as the voice of Cruz Ramirez in Cars 3. In her new special, she talks about getting Covid and how her newfound higher economic status is actually beautiful. is. great, among other things.

The Umbrella Academy season three (Netflix)

The Umbrella Academy, based on the hit comic book series Dark Horse, was a popular superhero show on Netflix for the first two seasons and now returns for a third installment. At the end of Season 2, the misfit group of heroes managed to go back in time to the 1960s to save the world from nuclear annihilation. However, when they returned to the present, they found that the late founder of their group is now alive. Even worse, he has created another group of super-powered individuals known as The Sparrow Academy. Can the Umbrella Academy fix this alternative gift?

Rowan Atkinson is a true British comedy institution, thanks to his own creations for TV such as the show Black Adder and of course the almost silent Mr. bean. He also starred in films such as Love Actually and his own Johnny English spy parody films. Now he stars in a new Netflix series as an ordinary man named Trevor. He needs some extra money, so he is hired to babysit in a very nice house for a week. Sounds simple, right? wrong. Trevor meets what he thinks is a very, very annoying bee in the house, and spends the rest of the show trying to kill him by any means necessary. Yes, that’s the plot of this nine-part show.

The Spanish-language crime show Money Heist is already a huge hit on Netflix, and now the series is getting a remake/spin-off. It takes place in a fictionalized version of Korea, where both the North and South regions are now united. Set in the same universe as the original series, the show revolves around an armed group of thieves who take over the currency of the country’s “Joint Economic Area” along with the law enforcement agencies who try to pursue their plans.

The latest FX on Hulu streaming show is a bit unusual. The eight-episode series centers on a highly talented chef who is forced to return to his hometown of Chicago after a family tragedy. It turns out he also inherited his family’s old sandwich restaurant, The Original Beef of Chicagoland. His mission is to take over the sandwich shop and, with the help of his employees, keep it running while improving the menu.

Maya Rudolph, former Saturday Night Live cast member, stars in this new comedy series from Apple TV Plus. She plays the wife of a hugely wealthy tech company founder who discovers he’s been having an affair. She divorces him, gets a whopping $87 billion settlement, and then decides to get more involved in her charitable foundation, much to the chagrin of the foundation’s employees. The series shows how she tries to give back to the world in her own, very interesting ways.

Westworld Season Four (HBO Max)

HBO and HBO Max bring us the fourth (and possibly final) season of this sci-fi series. As with the third season, the fourth largely takes place outside the Westworld adult theme park as we see Android’s AI creations continue to infiltrate the world and potentially eliminate the human population. The show continues to have one of the best casts on TV, with Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Aaron Paul, Thandiwe Newton and (recurring for the fourth season) James Marsden.
