Fire brigades were called to Wellington Airport on Friday morning when a burnt toast in the Col Lounge was forced to evacuate the international terminal.

Alan Granville, a staff travel reporter, was about to board a plane to Brisbane when he noticed smoke coming out of the lounge at around 5:40 am.

“We were just called to come to the gate, and at that moment we could see the smoke in the Collounge, and we could smell the burning toast.” Said Granville.

Passengers will meet at the Wellington Airport tarmac this morning after evacuating from the international terminal.
