Jacqui Smith blew Bernie Ecclestone for his remarks about Vladimir Putin on Good Morning Britain.
The former Home Secretary appeared on the ITV breakfast program alongside the former Conservative culture minister as they helped hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway analyze the latest news.
On Thursday’s program, 91-year-old businessman Ecclestone sparked controversy while talking about the Russia / Ukraine war, after being asked by Kate if he still considers the Russian president a friend.
“I will still take a bullet for him,” he said. “I would rather not have hurt it, but if it were, I would still take a bullet for him.”
I added; “He is a first-class man … What he is doing is something he believed was the right thing to do for Russia. Unfortunately, like many business people, he is like me, and we make mistakes from time to time. ‘
Ben appeared shocked and quickly interrupted the former F1 star to remind him that Putin had started the war in Ukraine, leading to the deaths of thousands of innocent people.
“You can not justify it, can you?” he asked, but Bernie replied: ‘It was not intentional … Look at the number of times America has moved into different countries that have nothing to do with America … they like wars because they sell a lot of armor , so it’s good for them. ‘
Speaking during the interview on Friday’s program, Jacqui said: ‘Well, Bernie Ecclestone is an idiot. I do not quite know on what basis he did that interview. It was absolutely shocking. ‘
Ben pointed out that in the midst of the war in Russia in the midst of the war in Russia, Russian drivers were banned from F1, noting that this was the main reason for getting Bernie’s opinion.
Ed Vaizy added: “You can make a lot of money and still be a moron.”
Meanwhile, an F1 spokesman has already said: “The remarks made by Bernie Ecclestone are his personal views and are in stark contrast to the position of the modern values of our sport.”
This is not the first time Bernie has expressed his support for Putin, as earlier this year he came out in an interview on Times Radio to the president’s defense, saying: ‘As a person, I found him. [Putin] very straightforward and honorable. He did exactly what he said he would do without any arguments. ‘
Good Morning Britain is broadcast on ITV on weekdays at 06:00.
