Apple has raised the price of the iPhone 13 series by about a fifth in Japan as the country faces inflation and a weakening currency.

International prices for Apple devices vary, of course, depending on currency values and logistical issues. Until this week, however, the iPhone 13 was actually slightly cheaper in Japan than the US.

Previously, the base 128GB iPhone 13 was sold for 99,800 yen, the equivalent of $ 732. Now, however, it is 117,800 yen, or the equivalent of about $ 864.

By comparison, the same iPhone in the US costs $ 799. So it used to be almost $ 70 cheaper to buy in Japan, now the Japanese Apple Store sells it for almost $ 70 more than in the US.

All models in the range have seen price increases, with the largest for the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Its 128GB version has gone from the equivalent of $ 989 to now $ 1,173.

In the United States, the 128 GB iPhone 13 Pro Max costs $ 1,099.

According to Reuters, the x price increases come because the US dollar is 18% higher against the yen. Japanese buyers are also believed to be facing rising inflation, affecting sales of even daily needs.

This is not the first time that Apple has adjusted prices significantly in Japan due to currency fluctuations. However, when it did so in 2016, the adjustment reduced prices by about 10%.
